The interview process was thorough and I dealt with two senior employees that were directly involved with the research. I was asked about my experience in the specific modality that the study involved and I answered honestly, admitting that I had no formal training or experience in that specific modality. They were still willing to train me and take me on, giving me a more than fair shot at the job, regardless of my lack of experience.
