I submitted a customized resume and cover letter and received a call for a telephone interview which was conducted by a conference call. I then had a second telephone interview maybe a week or so later before being asked to come to DC I was out of state for an in-person interview. Additionally, they required the candidate to provide a presentation. However, the requirement was worded in such a way that it seemed like they were trying to get free work via the interview process. The candidate had to provide a proposal on how they would complete certain aspects of the job using real examples. I felt that this free work product and that was really concerning to me. It turned out, they really had not done much work in this particular area for which they were hiring and, in my opinion, were using the interview process to fish for ideas without compensating for them. It seems that my concern was valid. The Executive Director finally told me me that they were actually reconsidering whether they wanted to offer this position at all. She did this after they engaged my time for three interviews.
