I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Mozilla (Portland, OR) in Sept 2021
Interview
I was a bit nervous about the interview process because of the negative reviews here, but I had a pleasant experience. From applying to the final interview loop, the process lasted 5 weeks. I think it'd probably be more like 4 weeks but I was moving and took a week off from the process to take care of that. Follow-up from the recruiter was always prompt, within a few days, sometimes even a few hours.
The process was as follows:
- Phone screen with recruiter
- Video call with hiring manager
- SQL/Python interview and Applied Stats interview (2 hours total)
- 2 hr data challenge with 30 minute presentation/panel interview, then two 30 minute interviews on product and policy.
People were polite and professional throughout. I was rejected because they are looking for more senior/staff level data scientists. I appreciated the feedback they gave me with the rejection.

Question 1
SQL/Python interview was very basic. Applied Stats interview was on A/B testing.
2 hr data challenge + panel was difficult because it was my first time with that style of interview. Would probably be more average difficulty for someone more experienced.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mozilla (Calgary, AB) in Sept 2022
Interview
It started with a phone interview with the recruiter. Then an interview with the hiring manager, and after that two technical interviews (Applied statistics in AB testing, Python and SQL). Finally I had virtual on-site interview in which I was given a series of questions which I worked and answered and prepared a presentation in 2 hours, then presented to a 3-ppl panel of peers and managers. I then had an interview with a manager and another interview with a stakeholder who closely works with data scientists. The day after the on-site interview the recruiter called me and gave me constructive feedback. The whole process was so positive and respectful of my time. The interview process is a demo of what you will actually do in this position and is well-made not to challenge you with unrealistic questions.
