I was contacted by a recruiter who was very unprofessional and clueless on the process that would take place. I was asked about my available dates and that was it and I didn't hear from her again until the day before the interview. She told me it was going to be a panel interview but she couldn't give me anything but the interviewers names and titles as she was "helping" someone out and this wasn't her area. I was told how great I was during the interview and answered the standard questions, but we ran out of time so I only had time to ask 2 quick questions. The recruiter emailed me the next day saying they wanted me back for a second interview ASAP but she didn't know when that would be or who would be involved but she was going to start putting it all together. After 2 weeks I contacted the recruiter and she said she hadn't done anything yet but she was going to get right on it. A month after the first interview I went in for the second interview thinking I was going to meet the hiring manager's boss and perhaps the hiring manager again. I ended up meeting peers of this position and the hiring manager. Luckily I came prepared and am fast on my feet and successfully dealt with questions that were meant to "catch me" in a negative situation somehow.
I was offered the position VIA EMAIL and the recruiter was unable or unwilling to answer my questions when I called her. I turned down the offer because I knew I couldn't work in an environment where people aren't forthright and ineptitude is the norm - not the exception!
The recruiter needs to find a new line of work as she was useless throughout the process and cared more about updating her email to tell people what special day was on her calendar ("National Brown Shoe Day is 12/4) instead of doing her job!
