I was contacted by the recruiter within 24 hours of submitting my application. We scheduled a call at our earliest convenience. The recruiter was polite and asked me to tell him about myself. I began by giving him a brief rundown of my work experience and my educational background. After I was done, the recruiter informed me that the job title itself would be IT Director, but that they were looking for someone with project management experience with implementing the appropriate technical solutions for their business. He informed me that the role itself was very new and that perhaps the job description and requirements may have been misleading because it was their first shot at this type of position. He admitted that they had received several really great applications and that most only focused on the job title of IT Director. I informed him that the job description did conflict with the job title advertised, but that the requirements section was geared more towards an executive leadership position in IT. I appreciated his honesty and let him know that if they ever required an executive IT leader in the future, to keep me in mind. Overall the phone interview was amicable and brief.
