I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Mimi's Bakehouse (Edinburgh, Scotland) in May 2022
Interview
Very positive took place in person was an immersive interview in which you were also trialled in barista skills at the same time. Took place in one of the cafes. Everyone else who worked their was very friendly.
trial shift, hour long. called before hand to invite you in. basically just invited into the shop, not introduced to anyone and then expected to take to it like a duck to water with limited instruction or support. managers all giving contradictory instructions. wasn't a friendly environment, other staff were unfriendly. no encouragement. spent most of the trial shift cleaning. had no interest in my skills or personality.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
previous experience is required, will ask if you have it. basically just don't want to train anyone, upsetting for someone who has experience but still not fully confident.
Trial shift- given no indication before arrival or on commencement of the shift what the expectations would be or how long the trial shift would be for. Number of managers working that day all giving different instructions. No other staff paid you any attention. We’re not asked any questions. Reluctance to give instruction, huge expectation of knowledge a candidate would already have. Felt as if i was spoken down to. Basically no one was friendly.
