I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Jan 2008
Interview
the interview process is as follows:
-Recruiter contacts you, understands what you are looking for, your experience, skills and passion, finds a good match, schedules a tech screen
-phone interview/tech screen - 1 or 2 depending on where the candidate is (local/overseas). 45 mins-1hr, technical, asked to code. If tech screen goes well asked for on site
-on site interview: 5 1:1 interviews, coding, design, testing. White board coding
After the on site review I received the offer within couple of business days. Overall very satisfied with the interview process
