      Project Manager Interview

      15 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Charleston, SC
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Micfo (Charleston, SC) in Aug 2017

      Interview

I had a 30-minute phone interview with the People Operations Manager first. A week or two after that I was asked to come in for an in-person interview. It probably lasted 1.5 hours. The location of the office is great. It's right across from High Cotton on East Bay, close to a lot of restaurants and just a few steps away from the Battery. The office itself is currently undergoing some construction, but it still felt very professional. I only met with 2 people: the People Operations Manager and then the CEO. After speaking with the People Operations Manager, I felt like I was doing pretty well, but then I met the CEO. He is very intimidating, but good natured. I could tell that he genuinely wants to know the people he hires. He wants to feel that they can handle tough situations under pressure, would be a good cultural fit, and would contribute to the company in a positive way. I was a little bummed that I didn't meet any team members, especially since this role would require me to work with people across departments, but I got a good vibe from the people I did meet. The only odd thing was that after the CEO was done interviewing me, he didn't allow time for me to ask questions and abruptly said that we were done and walked me to the elevator. I think that was all purposeful though to see how I would react. After they had spoken to some references and ran a background check, I was called a few days later with a job offer. What I really appreciated, is that even though they wanted to move fast, they gave me some leeway because I hadn't met the person who would be my manager. They scheduled a call for the following week so I could speak with her and find out her management style and some of the things she would be looking for from me. Overall, I felt like the company was a bit strict in terms of 9am-5pm hours and working from home (not really an option), but everyone seemed very nice and professional and all wanted to contribute to the success of the company.
