      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Meta (London, England) in Oct 2022

      Interview

Quickest way to opt-out from Meta vacancies! I was contacted by an internal recruiter for a Security Engineer role in a new Privacy Engineering team that Meta is forming. First attempt to have the interview; failed. Understandably so, since the internal recruiter could not rearrange another call during the same time. No problem with that. Second attempt to have the interview; failed. I am connecting to the room with my webcam and mic, but the interviewer cannot hear me. I changed the mic device, nothing. I call via phone, instead of connecting with webcam and mic, also no luck. Eventually the interviewer left the room telling me that they were not able to hear me. I am just wondering here, I tried three different things while they were simply waiting, could it be that they had an issue on their end?! Third time is the charm; success. I had the interview and without any introduction to the role that they contacted me about, I am being asked what I am doing in my current, as well as what I was doing in my previous roles. After talking for some time, given the zero interest to my answers, it seems that the interviewer understood that I did not mention anywhere the keywords that they were expecting to hear; therefore, I was not a good match! Because that is how one can tell if someone is a good match after all. I am being asked afterwards if I know how to code. I start by explaining what I do with coding and how I know to code. And then, they asked me again the same question. Well, it seems that saying Yes or No makes more sense to actually giving examples, as a simple Yes in this case was enough! Finally, I was asked if I am doing any kind of work related to privacy engineering. Excluding the ambiguity of the question, I told them that I did not have any related work there ever in my previous role. After all, it is not like they have my CV to review there whether that was the case or not. In the end, I was more or less told that I was not a good fit and I should try the AppSec role. Well, if I am not a good fit, why are you even contacting me for the role?! Of course, without any follow-ups later, whatsoever. Let alone the three times I had to schedule the call and the time dedicated due to that, I had also to go through a set of questions that make no sense. I could have just answered Yes to all of those, to speak with someone that actually know what they are looking for. This is the second time I had the chance to interview at Meta, and thankfully it was enough to understand that they do not even know what they are looking for, especially when it comes to newly built teams. Opted out and happily ever after.

      Interview

The interview process was very structured and oriented around being able to evaluate a candidate while enabling a candidate to talk to multiple employees across different teams to ask questions and form opinions. It consisted of different tracks of technical evaluation as well as behavioral evaluation. The process was respectful, professional, and geared to surface a good fit to the company and their culture as well as someone that could demonstrate solid technical proficiency.
