      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Merck (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2018

      Interview

I lived local to where the position being filled was located (West coast of US). First there was a phone screen interview with a local HR representative. Next, a phone interview was conducted by the hiring manager. Then, a different HR group located elsewhere began to coordinate an onsite visit and interview. Communication via email was difficult. They had a hard time coordinating people to be onsite for the interview - especially with a VP who wanted to evaluate me. My schedule was very much wide open since I was currently employed. The HR group couldn't coordinate with VP's assistant for their availability. At one point they got me involved to work it for them. There would be weeks of silence and suddenly there would be an invitation at 3 am to come in the next day. Which I almost did anyway but I had a conflict with another interview that day. After a few weeks of this, and without explanation, a third HR person began to coordinate an onsite visit. They seemed to coordinate the interview much better and we quickly agreed on a date - finally after many months from when the process began. Unfortunately my wife had to have surgery and so I told them I'd like to reschedule. They never replied and in the entire 3 months from the first phone call the hiring manager never contacted me again.
