I was asked to complete a code exercise in Python, which I did to their satisfaction. I then had a web cam interview with two people, but only one of them showed up to it. I was apparently interviewing for two different teams and they would decide which one I would be selected for, although I wasn't really what the criteria for either team was. After the web cam interview they flew me down for an in-person interview (I'm in San Francisco, they're in Los Angeles). I showed up to the office, was asked some technical questions and some non-technical questions, and then some architectural questions. All of it was pretty standard and the people seemed nice. After the interview was over I came home and waited. I had a phone call with a VP about a week later and we talked about the role and the future of the company, which is something I was a little concerned with. I mean, web-hosting in the age of cheap/massive cloud infrastructure? Seems like a reasonable concern. I didn't hear anything for a while, but I received a LinkedIn invite from the recruiter that I had been working with and one of the hiring managers. After waiting for a couple of weeks without hearing anything I assumed that I didn't get the job, but I messaged the recruiter just to find out. He confirmed that they weren't going to offer me the job, and offered to tell me why over the phone. I told him I wasn't really interested in finding out and good luck with their search. I wouldn't say I regret interviewing them, but it felt like a waste of time in retrospect. Still not sure why the hiring manager wants to be my buddy on LinkedIn.
