I started with a great conversation with the HR representative, who mentioned that my skills and experience aligned perfectly with what they were looking for in the role. This was a positive start and left me feeling optimistic.
The first interview was with the hiring manager. Unfortunately, it felt like he was not fully engaged in the process, sitting back in his chair and appearing somewhat disinterested. He asked several technical questions about databases, which I answered correctly, but this seemed to frustrate him further, leaving an uncomfortable impression.
Next, I had an interview with the skip-level manager. This interaction was perplexing, as he repeatedly questioned the validity of my experience. While I found it unusual, I confidently reassured him by sharing detailed examples of the products I’ve led and the expertise I bring to the table.
The final interview was with a Product Manager. She was very positive and supportive, mentioning within minutes that she believed I had all the necessary experience and knowledge for the position. She even assured me that if things didn’t work out, it wouldn’t be due to her feedback.
One week later, I received a rejection email, which was disappointing given the mixed signals throughout the process.
