I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Markforged (Watertown, MA) in Nov 2022
Interview
Straight forward - met with direct report, colleagues, and executives leadership. The process took about two hours. Colleagues were friendly and direct report was knowledgeable. My interview with leadership was a bit disappointing. The individual was supposed to give me a tour of their process but spent most of the time texting or emailing on their phone. Suggested that I tour myself and let them know if I had questions.

They asked me about a time when I faced a challenge and how I handled it.
I applied online. I interviewed at Markforged (Waltham, MA) in Nov 2025
Interview
Interview schedule was fast. Interview with HR, hiring manager online, then an onsite all scheduled very quickly. It was distasteful of them to ask me to come at 1pm after lunch instead of having lunch with me (usually the norm for tech jobs). Interview process was disorganized onsite. I kept being passed around to the next person with no wrap up from the manager. I’ve since been ghosted.

Question 1
“How would you optimize this 3d printer that traditionally prints with hard materials to change it to a softer material. What would you have to take into account.”
I went through several rounds for a Product Management role and was met with complete silence after each stage — even after polite follow-ups. The process felt disorganized and unprofessional. It’s hard not to notice the pattern when the overwhelmingly negative Glassdoor reviews reference the same issues: unexpected layoffs, constant churn, and poor communication.
During my interviews, the culture seemed anxious and uncertain — and for good reason. The company appears to be struggling to keep its footing, losing market share while competitors accelerate. You can see it in public discussions across additive manufacturing forums and Reddit product reviews. I later learned the entire product management team had been laid off a while back, and shortly after my interview week, another round of layoffs reportedly hit — possibly including the recruiter I was working with. That would explain the ghosting, but it also reinforces the instability.
I pushed forward in the process because my own company was rumored to be planning reductions, but in hindsight, I’m glad things didn’t progress here. If you’re currently employed in a more stable environment, I would strongly recommend being cautious. The warning signs from current employees and candidates alike are loud and clear.
Stay away if you have the option.
