      Application

      I interviewed at Maluuba

      Interview

I applied online and get contacted within one week. They firstly asked me to do some simple coding stuff for them so that they can make an assessment. Then they set up an in person interview for me immediately. Three algorithm questions were asked in the interview. Not very hard.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They talked about their system on high level and ask you if you can make any improvement to achieve some of their new business goals.

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Maluuba (Waterloo, ON) in May 2015

      Interview

I attended their info session and was called about a week after. I passed all interviews and they told me you have to wait for an offer. Then after 3 weeks they did not contact me and I start to email them. But the recruited ignored me. So I emailed the engineer who I sent coding assignment and he made him to reply to me. Then he setup a phone call date and again did not call. I would say this guy was probably the rudest and most impolite recruiter I have ever seen. Finally, he left me a voice message that I was sick or BS like that. Then told me we have internal management changes, and you did great but we need more time and will contact you in two weeks with an offer. But they never did. Basically my advice, stay away from this company. It's basically run by a bunch of kids who are rude and impolite. When I visit their office yelling and disrespecting other employees seemed a quite common thing there. I am glad I did not end up there.

      Software Engineer Interview

      17 Jul 2014

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Maluuba (Kitchener, ON)

      Interview

one of hiring managers contacted me and offered to have an interview. then after initial interview with HR manager development project was sent by e-mail. Development project includes a question in general comp science and a separate project in nlp. NLP problem is quite standard, can be solved in several ways. Then there were also some theoretical nlp questions in which one has to describe how it is possible to solve them and which methods can be used. Overall such problems can take up to 10 hours of work for people familiar with the topics and well above that for the ones who are new to the field. then after several weeks hr contacted me again and scheduled another interview with engineering team. They first asked question to clarify solution methods from development project and gave bunch of theoretical and practical questions about nlp, statistics and machine learning. then after another several weeks hr scheduled an interview with a project manager. this was partially a technical interview and partially about general things like motivation for employment, what i would like to do etc. after that no other contacts happened, no final feedback was provided(though intermediate feedbacks were provided, ie you solved all of the development project problems correctly, engineering team admitted that you answered all of the questions correctly)
