      Software Engineer Interview

      17 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at MakeSpace in Aug 2020

      Interview

Applied through LinkedIn. Was contacted by a recruiter within a week to setup a call to talk about the company, available roles. This was followed by a call with one of the hiring managers who gave detailed info on the job role, expectations and their current products. Later I was asked to setup a tech screen round with a third party company Karat IO. It was an hour long interview mainly involving 2 coding questions which were fairly straightforward and involved parsing few strings and building an aggregated output based on the input strings. Finished one of it and gave my approach to solve the second before we ran out of time. Contacted the recruiter after 2 days asking for the feedback but have not heard from them. The recruiter has completely ghosted me with no status on my application.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Given a list of parts as a list of strings and list of parts needed to build a product, parse these lists and build a list of all the products that can be built. Involved string match and keep track of all the parts per product

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at MakeSpace (New York, NY)

      Interview

I applied online. Initially, there was a phone screening and then they wanted the hiring manager to interview which they set up. One the time the interview was set up, the hiring manager did not show up. I emailed HR and I was told that he forgot the schedule. I was then rescheduled at another day and this time the hiring manager showed up. This involved little of tech questions but not too deep. The hiring manager told me that they wanted me to do a coding challenge and I should hear from them soon. A week passed and nothing from HR. I emailed and asked for the progress only to get back a response after couple of days saying that they have filled the position. I understand that that could happen but HR just not considerate enough to let candidates know about this.
