      Assistant to the Editor Interview

      27 Jun 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Portland, ME
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MaineToday Media (Portland, ME) in May 2014

      Interview

After applying I got a call back to schedule a telephone interview. It was relatively easy, though it was the first telephone interview that I'd done so some of the questions were somewhat unexpected. I apparently did well enough to do an in-person interview with the interim assistant and the HR representative. It was a fairly easy interview that covered my skills and how I could apply them to the position. I learned more about the position and the company, and they told me they may call me back for another. A week or so later I was called in for a third interview with the same employees. They told me that I was in the running with another person, and they wanted to interview me again to ask me different questions before referring me to the editor for the final interview. At this point I started to get a little impatient - I'd been out of work for a while, and the interviews seemed endless. When they called to schedule the alleged final interview for the position, I informed them that I had taken a job elsewhere, and I had. I can't say for sure if that would have been the final interview or not. I'm glad that I took the other job though, because the interviewing experience made me feel as if the company was disorganized and made me wary of working there. I still wonder how a fast-moving company such as the Portland Press Herald could have taken so long to decide. Currently, I work in Human Resources, conducting interviews, and overseeing the interview process at our company, and so I especially found the lengthy process unacceptable.
