I applied for the social media manager role because my skills matched the job description, and I was up for the challenge. I had to call the owner at an 866 number. The person who answered wasn't aware that I had an interview and couldn't reach him. This was awkward. I've been interviewing at least 2-3 times a week for over a year, and this is a first. During the interview, he said that the SMM would take photos at various locations. That wasn’t on the job description. The next stage of the interview process was coming in to work for free for a few hours to show off your skills. I immediately recognized that as a huge red flag. I had a brand rip off my ideas after I mentioned one suggestion on an application, so I set up a boundary that I wouldn't offer ideas or work for free. I am not entitled but seek value. I could tell I wouldn't be valued for my work and well-being. The pay was too low, and that was a warning sign I neglected, too. Yikes! 😬
