      Marketing Associate Interview

      28 Jan 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Magoosh in Dec 2016

      Interview

I applied online and a few days later was contacted by their recruiter with a written assignment. They asked to have it back within a week. It took me about 6-8 hours to complete and turned it in within the deadline. A few days later I got an email confirmation, and that they would get back to me. A few weeks later I was notified that I was not selected, but that the team would provide feedback. Although it took another few weeks, it is understandable as it was holiday season. I'm very grateful for the detailed feedback the team gave, and the positive application experience the recruiter gave.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Magoosh in Jan 2017

      Interview

Magoosh explains their interview process in detail on their blog. Briefly, after submitting your application you are contacted to submit a work sample/questionnaire, followed by a phone interview, and in-person interview. I did not pass the questionnaire portion, but was told I could request feedback. I requested feedback but didn't hear back for a few weeks. LinkedIn said they had almost 100 applicants (?!) so I can understand they were backed up! I followed up again, and got detailed feedback within a week. The feedback was genuine and really helpful! While I didn't get far in the interview process, the little interaction I had with Magoosh was extremely positive. Would definitely apply again.

      Question 1

The questionnaire is very straightforward. It asks you to compare companies, do your own analysis, and asks how you would present your work.

      Marketing Associate Interview

      19 Jan 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Magoosh (San Francisco, CA) in Dec 2016

      Interview

Applied online and a few days later was contacted by their recruiter with a written assignment. They asked to have it back within a week. It had a few exercises to complete - similar to the work this role would entail. I worked on it for a total of about 6 hours and returned it within the deadline. A few days later I got an email that they had a lot of qualified candidates and would not be moving ahead with my application. The email also said I could ask for feedback from the team. I reached out for feedback and never heard back, followed up but have yet to hear anything. Very confusing/frustrating process - I put a ton of time and effort into a first round interview assignment and it's very disheartening to never hear back after the offer of getting feedback. Really disappointing after all the wonderful things I have heard about this company!

      Question 1

They asked for a mini competitive study of competitors.

I'm Meghan, the Recruiter at Magoosh. Thanks for the feedback, and I'm sorry we didn't provide a positive experience. I completely understand your frustration. :( While we try our best, our hiring process is not perfect, and we use feedback like this to improve it as we go. Regarding the written assignment, we definitely ask a lot from our candidates throughout the hiring process because we are trying to ensure that there is a fit both ways. We understand that it’s asking for a lot of time from candidates, and we’re actively considering whether we can assess competency using shorter exercises. It's a challenge because we want to both thoroughly test competency and have our candidates get a sense of the scope of projects that would be involved in the position. In any case, there’s room for improvement and we appreciate your feedback. As far as the feedback response goes, the reason we offer to re-review responses and provide helpful feedback is because we ask for so much from our candidates whom we advance past the application review stage. (This is engrained in our culture, Wow > Profit and Learning > Knowing). As a small team with currently only one recruiter, we aim to respond to feedback requests within a two week time frame. I’m very proud that we try and do this for candidates. This particular position received the most applications we’ve ever seen and our search spanned the holiday season. Unfortunately, for some requests, we responded between 2-4 weeks after the request was received. We realize that when you’re in the middle of a stressful job search, feedback is most valuable sooner than later, and we are working towards increasing the efficiency of this process, despite our small team size. In regards to your request specifically, if the feedback has not already been sent back to you, it will be within a month of your request. If for any reason, you do not hear back from us within that time frame, please reach out to us again and I’ll be sure to take care of it as soon as possible. :) Since receiving your feedback, I’ve added clarity around when candidates who request feedback should expect to hear back. I’m hoping this will help other candidates. Thank you on behalf of other candidates!
