Application process was online which should have been easy. However, the only opportunity to upload the CV is first which the application form then uses to pre-fill information. This was highly inaccurate and took more time to amend the information, it also meant that the CV does not support the application as it becomes a duplicate.
The interview process included a microteach and interview. Neither was well organised, in the information asked or needed, to comparable experiences at other Colleges.
Microteach : The topic provided was general and the level needed was not specified in the interview offer email. The level was clarified when asked. However, the role would teach Level 1-3 where different delivery would be needed. This understanding should be evidenced by the College in observation of the micro-teach and selecting a specific and appropriate level of lesson.
The class size was not specified which made designing the activities difficult, very small group size to standard. The adjustments for specific learners were not identified for resources to be prepared in different formats.
A positive was the micro-teach had 20 minutes which allowed a reasonable demonstration of teaching.
Overall, the minimum needed information to design and deliver a microteach is not provided as standard. This is much lower an experience of interview than at other Colleges.
Interview :
Most of the questions are usual of a College; Safeguarding, managing attendance, dealing with a difficult situation. However, some questions were unclear in their intended purpose for the role or were limited only to teaching.
It seemed standardised questions were being asked irrespective of the role and which didn't account for industry teaching. When applying for a role that has vocational aspects it would be expected to ask about industry background, not just teaching.
The interview didn't provide the opportunity for evidencing industry experience which advertised as an essential part of the role, and how it can support quality of teaching.
The full interview process was typical of a College with an interview and micro-teach. However, poor information for the micro-teach and limited questions doesn't allow for effectively evidencing integrating in valuable industry experience.
