      Mobile QA Engineer Interview

      23 Nov 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lehi, UT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at MX (Lehi, UT)

      Interview

This is the worst company I've ever interviewed with. First, I went thru 5 interviews, including 4 fact to face, before anyone asked me about salary expectations. It was clear at that that they were chaotic and didn't care how much of candidate's time they wasted. Likewise, it was only after the 5th interview that I was informed that two C-level execs must also interview all candidates, on two separate days. So that would be a minimum of 3 on-site interviews on 3 separate days. HR never explained the process to me in advance. So after I finished the 5 interviews--with the engineering team who were all very smart and nice--I was floored to be informed of the "Next Steps with Our Execs." It's hard for me to do F2F interviews because I work full time. I have to ask for time off in advance. MX HR knows this. HR then dragged me thru 3 weeks of scheduling the next F2F interview with the CTO . They scheduled that interview multiple times. Then as the time approached and I had not received an email confirmation I would send an email "I never heard back so I'll conclude that I don't have an appointment tomorrow." HR would never even bother to tell me that the interview fell thru. At some point during the three weeks heard from person b, who is apparently in HR but never told me who she is. She was trying to schedule this next interview along with person a. In total I think they scheduled at least 5 interviews with me that I never got confirmation for, nor did they bother to tell me the times didn't work out. In addition I started getting regular text messages from both person a and person b--who never bothered to identify themselves so I had no idea who I was communicating with. They would literally ask me to come in to interview the SAME DAY after I was already at work. Uh, no. I had to repeatedly explain to them that I need to get permission from my current employer and give them reasonable notice to take time off. HR person b, who is consistently nice but utterly undependable, explains to me numerous times that the CTO is just so busy and often out of town so it's almost impossible to get his time for an interview bla bla bla, which make me wonder why they don't realize that their system doesn't work. If this guy doesn't have time to interview candidates then they shouldn't set that as a requirement. I was pretty sure I was on the same path as the other reviewer here who was strung along for weeks because the exec didn't have time for them before finally being sent an email blowing him off. Whatever, I hang in there and finally get a firm appointment (scheduled the day before with the time changed at the last minute). When I arrive someone from HR who I'd never met before comes out and never introduces herself. Was it person a? Who knows. She tells me the CTO "normally likes to do walking interviews." Seriously? So if someone is wearing uncomfortable shoes or carrying a purse and tablet, or has a disability they have to lope along beside the hipster CTO while trying to interview? Unbelievable. Luckily though for me it was too cold so they took me deep into the building to a lounge with sofas where the CTO proceeded to munch cereal and look utterly bored. He made me ask most of the questions. In response to my questions he'd look annoyed and give a terse response then sit there looking disgusted. He asked a few standard questions (Why are you in QA? Where do you want to be in 5 years? Name a weakness.) but it was stilted and never flowed like a conversation. He came off as sullen and hostile. Then this happened. He looked at his phone and said he had another meeting and stood up and ran out of the room and left me. Alone. In a building I didn't know my way around. I gathered up my coat and belongings and tried to follow in the direction he ran but I couldn't see him anymore and when I tried to go thru the only double doors I saw they were LOCKED. I was trapped and wasn't even sure I was going the right way so I'm pawing at the doors trying to figure out how to unlock them and someone finally sees me and tells me that I have to step back into a sensor to trigger the doors to unlock. I'm then able to get the doors to unlock and run around looking for the CTO who it turns out is in the kitchen chatting with others and doesn't acknowledge me in any way. He then races off to the HR area and I ask if I'm supposed to be following him and mumbles yes then runs into the HR area and tells me to go sit in the lobby. At no point does he ever say "bye" or "thanks" or squat. I sit in the lobby for 5-10 minutes and decide I'm supposed to leave when person b comes out and asks me how it went and I tell her it was awful and she escorts me to the door. Next day I get email saying they won't be moving forward with me. Five weeks after the initial interview. Thank gawd. What a horrible unprofessional place that is pure chaos and treats their candidates like dirt.
