I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory (Boston, MA) in Dec 2015
Interview
I applied to a posting online and heard back from one of the group leaders a month or two later. All I had was a phone interview with him; no on-site interview or anything. It was about half an hour long. After that, I was contacted by HR. After a week or two, I was notified that my offer was approved. Then I went through the background check process, which involved a decent amount of paperwork that I had to mail in. Overall, the process wasn't bad.

Question 1
I was asked to tell him about the research that I had done the summer before. From what I remember, I spent most of the interview talking about that.
I applied through university. I interviewed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory (Cornwall on Hudson, NY) in Feb 2021
Interview
The process was very laid back, we had a one on one interview over a video call that went very well. The interviewer just wanted to know basic information in order to pass me on to the next round of interviews.
