The process was fairly relaxed. I had just one interview over the phone with my direct mentor, and I was hired on the spot. None of the questions asked were very technical.

Interview
Was referred to a group leader by a professor at my university and was extended the offer to interview. The interview was via phone for less than an hour, but we discussed what projects were currently going on and what the distribution of skills was like for people in the group, in addition to some questions about my prior experience etc.

Interview
I got a call from the group leader that wanted to hire me and he said that my resume looked interesting. I explained some of the parts he was interested in and he gave examples of the work his specific group did. Months later I met him in person in a coffee shop and mostly talked about what work was done in the group.
