      Clinical Research Associate Interview

      18 Jun 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Raleigh, NC
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Labcorp (Raleigh, NC) in May 2018

      Interview

I have read these reviews religiously prior to my interview and thought they were very helpful and now that I am done with the interview process, I wanted to provide an overview of my interview process! The position I interviewed for was a CRA 1- MEA Oncology Position. The first step was a brief (20-30) minute phone interview with a Covance HR rep. She was very nice and went through some questions that were pretty straightforward. She did ask me about my oncology background and some in depth clinical questions as well just to test my knowledge. She was very kind the experience was great! The second step was a phone interview that was basically only about oncology. They really test your knowledge to see what you know which is different than any other CRO (which is great in my opinion). I think more CRO's should do this to ensure the right people are monitoring these studies. She asked some questions about my ability to travel. I think this step was difficult because it was timed (30 minutes). If you know your material it makes it easier. The good part about this is that the interviewer (line manager) gave immediate feedback in the last 5 minutes of the call which is very comforting. I really appreciated how in depth this CRO goes to accrue qualified and good talented people. The last step was a webcam interview (through HireView) with two people that in management positions. This step seemed like it would be the most stressful but it wasn't! This was because both of the people that interviewed me wanted to know me for who I am and I thought that was awesome! They did ask some questions that are standard interview (behavior) questions but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, this company really invests time and effort into their recruitment of new team members and I think that this is how it should be. Everyone was very pleasant. The company culture I have experienced in my interview process was very kind and welcoming. I don't think I could have changed or asked for anything to improve.

We have set up this structure to ensure we are hiring skilled CRAs that can protect patient safety in these critical clinical research studies. It’s also good to hear that our inclusive and friendly culture was evident during the interview process. Thank you again for taking the time to write.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Labcorp in Sept 2022

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted by an HR recruiter for a phone screen pretty much immediately. I responded promptly but never heard back from her. I was then contacted by another HR recruiter for the same position and he did get back to me. The first interview was a phone screen -- a few technical questions, he explained the role, and he was pleasant and friendly. Within a few days, I was invited for a 1.5-hour interview with two managers. It started out pleasant enough, if not overly welcoming. Several technical questions, hypothetical situation-based questions, and lastly STAR behavioral questions -- make sure you know your therapeutic area well. Unfortunately, I felt very uncomfortable in this interview and was interrupted several times mid-sentence. One of the managers also wrongly interpreted my resume a few times and the other manager had to correct her. Overall, it was not a very pleasant experience. At this point, I knew it wouldn't be a good fit for me. This was unfortunate, as I'd been quite passionate about the company and the position. But it was a good reminder to reassess opportunities during the interview phase: candidates are interviewing the company as much as they're being interviewed for the position.

I was asked about general questions on clinical research and my experiences on case specific examples. Going through your experiences so far for giving certain examples of where you were expected to take initiative and made difference would differentiate you from other candidates.
