      Social Worker Interview

      26 Aug 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at KIPP Schools

      Interview

Shortly after applying through the website I was contacted by a recruiter for an interview. It was a long day. I observed in a classroom, I met separately with about 3 staff members, and I was given a tour of the school and introduced to a number of people. Then I met with the principal who informed me that they weren't certain about having funding for the position during the upcoming school year. I spent a total of 4 hours there. It was very pleasant but the funding bit was pretty disappointing especially with the half-a-day interview. Several days later I received an email from the recruiter informing me that I wouldn't be offered the position. I replied, asking a question, but received no response, so I have no way of knowing if another candidate was selected, or if the funding never came through. Too bad. Seemed like a lovely place.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at KIPP Schools (Newark, NJ) in Jun 2018

      Interview

After applying for the position I received an email from a recruiter detailing that they would like to have me in for a school social work day interview. Once I confirmed my availability for the day I was sent 2 tasks to prepare for the day of the interview. I had to write a treatment plan for a student who had multiple behavior issues. Additionally, I had to prepare a 15 minute group for approximately 4 students. On the day of the interview I was given a tour of the school and then brought to view an ESY classroom. I was given no instructions or observation sheet for the class. After the observation (30 plus minutes)I was brought to a different classroom to do my group. Instead of 4 students there were approximately 9. After the classroom presentation I was brought to an office for an interview with 3 TEAMmates (administrators and social workers). I had prepared the requested 3 references, and treatment plan as well as my group lesson plans. I was never asked about the treatment plan. Additionally, I was never asked about the classroom observation. The questions were general questions regarding social work practice in school settings. After the interview I sent a follow up thank you email. I was not offered the position and I did not receive any communication regarding the position post interview. I believe it was a very long day and the interview required a lot of time prior to and during the interview. I would have appreciated a simple thank you but no thank email after I was not chosen for an open position.
