I applied online. I interviewed at Justworks (New York, NY) in Oct 2025
Interview
I had 2 years of experience going into the interview. First round was a 15 min screening with a senior engineer where you talk about one of your projects. Next was a code signal online assessment where you have to implement a banking system and each question adds complexity. I would say equivalent to a harder leetcode medium or easy leetcode hard. I did not get a perfect score but passed through to the next round which was a behavioral with a staff engineer. Pretty basic. Next was the in person onsite which was a system design question. It was to design a Jira board, and they wanted me to focus on data modeling and api design more so than cap theory or architecture stuff. Next was a debugging exercise. It was a purposefully poorly written employee manager tree script that was supposed to print out who is who's manager. It has confusing structure and variable names and you have to figure out why the test is failing and how to fix it. If you do that fast enough they might ask you to optimize it. Then a behavioral with a product manager and a behavioral with an engineering manager.

Question 1
- They asked me how to design a database for Jira?
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Justworks (New York, NY) in Jan 2026
Interview
First call was with a senior engineer asking HR questions? Code signal assessment afterwards which asked you to do a lot in under 90 mins. Using map of maps, sorting, lots of tedious things. You have to finish each question in order (no skipping around). Did not even have to decency to send an automated rejection email. Just ghosted me after. Don’t waste your time.

Interview
1. Recruiter Call
2. Online Assessment
3. Hiring Manager Call
4. ~4 hour Onsite
It was lengthy, and honestly I feel if you are going to have a long interview process, then you might as well split the 4 hour interview into multiple days, and make it online, with a shorter onsite.

Typical Behavioral Questions
For the tech questions, they're pretty easy, dont overthink it. I feel nerves will play a bigger factor than difficulty.
