The interview process was pretty disorganized from the start. After applying for the PM role, I received a Linked In message asking if I was still interested in the position, but it was for a different role than I applied for. A few minutes later I received another Linked In message asking if I was interested in the PM role. I responded to both and said I was interested, thinking that I would gain more information about why they suggested the other role. Then I was emailed asking if I was available later that day for an online interview, no specific time and also no additional information about what position this interview was for and who I would be talking to. I happened to be on vacation when I received this email, so I was able to take the interview and suggested a time. I signed on to the interview thinking it was a phone call and it was a video call. I was fine having video on, but this was definitely different from any other first round interview I’ve had. I feel like most companies intentionally lead with a phone interview, so that there aren’t any bias based on appearance, gender, race, etc., but maybe this is the new norm with everyone being on video conferences more often. The interviewer complained multiple times about how busy and tired she was and she also had no prepared questions. She hadn’t even read my resume and asked me to send it to her while we talked. I found out after I asked that I was in fact interviewing for the PM role and that the person I was interviewing with would be my manager.
