I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at John Lewis & Partners (London, England) in Oct 2017
Interview
This interview was for my first ever job. I was invited about a week after applying online and was asked to book a group interview from a few available dates.
I arrived at the partner entrance and we were swiftly taken up to a big room with tables, and at the end of each table there was a current employee at the store, taking notes. There were 4-5 of us (interviewees) sat at each table.
We were then given 5 situations set in a John Lewis store of the future and asked to prioritise them as a group. They were clearly looking for people who were confident and not afraid to give suggestions. I made one or two decisions that were opposed by the rest of the interviewees at the table, however I still managed to get the job which I believe was due to my willingness to suggest new ideas and ability to take constructive criticism to re-evaluate my choices.
After this we were given three more situations, however we had to complete these individually in an answer booklet. At the end, we were given a form to put down our availability, and after being presented with four different work rotas, we were asked to list which three we would be available for in order of preference.

Interview
During the interview we were in groups and we had different scenarios which we had to first read and think about individually and then we had some time to talk about it with the group and make notes. We had to discuss how we would deal with each scenario and any other problems that could possibly arise. During this time there was an assessor at the table, making notes on what each individual was saying in the group. When the time was up, the assessor asked us any additional questions that we didn't touch on, and so gave us one last chance to say something. After this we got given another sheet with scenarios but this time it was an individual written assessment where we had to write what we would say, or behave in certain situations. Then we had to fill in a form specifying the hours of work we preferred , if we had any holidays planned etc.
