Application
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Jefferies (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2014
Interview
Initially there was a phone interview where we went over very general questions to affirm that I was a good candidate for the position, and that I was interested in the specific role. Then we planned an in-office interview for the next week. They were friendly and respectful throughout the entire process.

Question 1
Most difficult question that I received in the interview was them asking for a complete stock pitch
Absolutely disengaged interviewer! more interested in his/her phone than me - utterly unprofessional. Him/her was huffing and puffing during the interview, it was like he was was dragged out of bed against his own will!
I did the first 2 rounds through phone call with the VP and associate. Then got invited to an in person interview with 3 team members (Analyst, VP, Associate). Nearly all were behavioral questions.
The interview for equity research consists of a behavioral and technical portion. Expect a "Why Jefferies" question along with basic technicals. They want to see your passion and why you are interested in working at the firm.
