I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Jane Street (New York, NY) in Nov 2009
Interview
I had experience with functional programming, and I had applied to Jane St as they use Ocaml internally. First round of phone interview consisted of questions on functional languages and functional pearls. Second round of phone interviews involved 3-4 puzzles and algorithm questions. After that I was invited to their company where I had 2 interviews; one involving puzzles/quants and a programming interview based on a concurrent framework. Interviews were fun, though in the end it didn't work out.
Self introduction. Describe past experience with skills relevant to the job. Live coding of several algorithms as part of one combined software system in a remote call with a full-time engineer

Interview
I had a phone interview where we went over a technical problem. The interviewer described the problem in a very clear and well-defined way. I was allowed to code in any language I wanted to (ended up going with python). The response times are good, this company will not ghost you.
had a video call with a recruiter, was able to provide times and they chose one. The recruiter was very nice and helped when I got stuck on the problem
