Senior Software Engineer (Vice President) Interview

      26 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at JPMorganChase (London, England) in Jun 2023

      Interview

It all began with a LinkedIn message from an HR representative who provided a comprehensive overview of the opportunity. He also mentioned the existence of two distinct teams, allowing me to select the one that aligned with my preferences and experience. Subsequently, the first round of interviews was scheduled, which encompassed both a coding assessment and a technical discussion. I was presented with a coding challenge and successfully tackled it. Towards the conclusion, I was asked fundamental questions regarding the architectural aspects, particularly concerning the development of a new service within AWS. This round went smoothly, and the interviewer exhibited a high level of professionalism. The subsequent round was coordinated by a senior HR associate. Upon reviewing the interviewer's profile, it became apparent that they possessed an extensive array of certifications / 1 million (humorously stated). The interview commenced with a 30-minute coding segment, followed by a comprehensive 60-minute system design discussion. I elaborated on a product I had personally developed, which was presently operational in a production environment. The interviewer offered insights into alternative approaches, emphasizing the importance of considering various trade-offs. Surprisingly, I did not anticipate that this (what wasn't there in my product) aspect would be viewed negatively. In my opinion, these discussions should be conversational, recognizing that not every solution is universally applicable and that implementation choices should align with the specific use case and problem to be addressed. Despite my attempts to seek feedback from the senior HR contact, I have yet to receive any response. I subsequently reached out to the initial HR representative, who indicated that the senior HR team was responsible for feedback. I've made multiple follow-up attempts with the senior HR team, but regrettably, there has been no response. I doubt as it's been more than 2 months. Such a lack of communication is unexpected in an organization of this stature.
