      Associate Manager Interview

      8 Apr 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at J. Crew (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2016

      Interview

The most unorganized company I have ever interviewed for. I did a phone interview with a manager who was all over the place, forgot my name, couldn't finish her sentences and kept saying the wrong words. On top of that she was 15 minutes late calling me. She said I would hear back from her in a few days it ended up being over 2 weeks before she contacted me and left me this random voicemail that did not make any sense. When I called back she was once again all over the place and realized she had called the wrong person and left the wrong message. As a customer I will no longer be shopping with this company. If you can't respect me as a potential employee you will not get my business.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I honestly can't remember an important question she asked due to her being all over the place.

      Interview

I submitted my resume and was given a phone call about two week later. I was then asked if I was still interested in the position, and set up a call for a later time with their HR department. The 2nd call was from the actual store manager, and she asked me when I could meet in person. After meeting in person and going through typical 10 minute interview (tell me about a time... resume exploration etc) I met with the area manager and went through the same process.

      Question 1

You will be managing people older than you, how do you expect to order them to accomplish tasks and get them to respect your authority?

      Interview

Moved up from within the company- it was through good training and strong leadership that I was prepared for the role and have been successful at it. The senior leaders in my building saw my potential and embraced it from the very beginning. I look forward to the next step I take with the company- I never considered working for another retailer because of the pride I take in this brand and my work here.
