I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Invitae (San Francisco, CA) in Sept 2019
Interview
I applied online to the role as a remote position. I was contacted a couple days later by recruiter for short 20 min call with typical questions. Followed up by a call with the hiring manager a few weeks later. He asked me a few basic bioinformatics, SQL, and programming questions. Was then given a take home bioinformatics programming test, which was fairly simple and mostly busy work. I submitted it and was invited for an onsite interview a few weeks later in San Francisco.
Of the 7 or 8 1-on-1's, three were over video conference. One of the video conference people was hard to understand due to noise in the background, but he eventually fixed it. But the interviews were otherwise went fine and on time. Generally, things were just casual chats about what they did, my experience, etc. One guy gave me a few whiteboard questions (some were basic python questions, one was to design a system for monitoring data download/upload from sequencing machine to database). A few people had some specific technical or cultural questions.
Everyone throughout the process seemed pretty nice and knowledgable. Seemed like to cool company too. Hotel was decent and they gave me snacks/drinks when I was onsite.
Once the onsite was finished they said they would give me feedback on how I did, but unfortunately they did not. It was about 1-1.5 months until they told me their decision. The whole process took about 3 months.
