normal approach of getting to know a candidate, talking to recruiter first and hiring manager after. Recruiter will do the normal steps of understanding the candidate and his/her background. Hiring manager sounded clueless to be frank, and asked open ended questions rather than more specific question related to candidate or the job and it`s understandable since she was new to the gig (first job ever after years of public accounting), nothing super technical nor specific just random vague question like " how do you think you have learned from your past experiences?" " what are some technical areas you think you can count them as accomplishments?" "what would you do if you want to look up an accounting topic?" the questions were not difficult just not focused or aimed to a specific topic nor area which is not hard to respond but it definitely is challenging to answer to 30 minute conversation. No behavioral questions were asked, which is suprising as the IS keeps promoting their culture and making sure candidate is a good fit for company's culture. It sounded like their accounting team is extremely lean so if you get the job do expect to work late hours, as I got to confirm this facts with friends of mine who are contractors in their team.
