I was reached out to by a recruiter, who was great! Very involved, would check in regularly and made sure to give feedback after each interview.
I did an initial phone screen, then had a zoom interview with the hiring manager which went great! I received positive feedback and they asked me to come into the office to give a sales pitch in person to the team.
They made it seem like I would he pitching to a team of 3-4 sales leaders/executives. They told me to come prepared with a pitch deck and to have the deck printed out as well. They also said I would be able to use presenter notes. I paid to print out four copies of the deck and brought them in along with my presentation on my laptop and notes. When I arrived I was waiting for about 10-15 minutes in a conference room alone before someone came in and I ended up only presenting to the hiring manager, the same one I had already had a zoom call with. After the presentation she asked why I was using notes but I had the understanding the notes were okay. I was also able to speak with one of the Senior AEs on the team afterwards, which was helpful.
I received feedback from the recruiter, he said that the hiring manager didn’t like that I used notes and said “um” too much. Ultimately wasn’t the best fit as the pay was very low compared to other similar sales roles. I also felt like my time wasn’t valued as I could have just done my sales pitch on the zoom call instead of going to their office to meet with someone I already interviewed with. (Also wasted money to print out copies of a presentation that got thrown away)
