I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Inside Higher Ed in Jan 2020
Interview
FYI- non-POC and only one WOC in leadership. Founder seemed to be focused on “why journalism” questions even though I’ve worked in the field for a number of years. Clear indication he hadn’t read any of my work. Even more disappointed that they come into POC circles on social media asking for diversity, then tell us they want someone with more experience but then go on to hire white ppl whose resume a lot of POC can run circles around. They said they wanted someone with a certain level of experience but then hired a former intern.

Interview
Spoke with three different editors in fairly informal phone interviews. Asked typical questions about my experience, strengths, weaknesses and why I was looking for a new job. Also had to complete a reporting test in which I was given facts about an event and was asked to write a short, accurate article on said event.

Question 1
Why are you looking for a new job / leaving your previous role?
It was good, we spoke for about 15 minutes, I was asked about my previous experience, about the stories I've written and how I developed sources. I was asked about my strengths and future plans
