      Regional Sales Manager Interview

      30 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at InnaLabs

      Interview

Interview was very fixated on the companies grand ambitions and who i knew in the industry rather than my technical know how and sales know how. HR was very amateur even for a start up. Targets for the individual starting were to increase business by 500%, very ambitious indeed and a further 200% the year after. That is 10x the current position in two years! Very ambitious indeed, I was keen to understand how they arrived at this figure and this was met by a stony silence. Eventually I managed to ascertain that was the expectation of the investors not any conducted market analysis of any value! This is what I would be measured against! I politely withdrew from the process! So this was back in 2014. Reviewing 5 years later it is clear the company have been a success but it took 5 whole years to create the growth expected in just 1 and they still haven't reached year 2 expectations! This goes to show that you can be a hugely successful business development professional creating success elsewhere but if expectations do not align with that of the investors so will quickly be seen as a failure, this is where anyone's morale would plummet. I am very pleased I was experienced enough to see the fit wasn't right. This very well could have succeeded as they imagined but without some background evidence how they arrived at that conclusion it was a definite no. When quizzed interview was focused on sales targets £1.4M starting point and they were targeting £8M in one year and expectations for £14M in year two. However they were unable to provide me any detail on any conducted TAM analysis as how they had arrived at this growth figure and were quite stumped I questioned it! I had no option to pull out as it was a huge risk entering a new role and having that huge growth expectation over your head when background TAM analysis wasn't complete, it would possibly result in them being dissatisfied in any growth efforts should they fall short. Looking at their company financials it was 2019 when they actually listed turnover results in excess of £7M so was a wise move to pull out of the interview process when i did!
