I got a phone call after I applied for a job in December 2010 and go a follow up call few days later from HR. My phone interviews were scheduled in January. I had three rounds of phone interview. I think they wanted to be very sure about my skills and knowledge as I was an outstation candidate. I was happy when they called me to know that they want me to visit their office (air ticket and hotel expense included). I visited their headquarter and I had 4 rounds of interviews. Very stressful and technical. But I enjoyed every bit of it.
I was given a follow up question/assignment which I submitted after I got back home. Few weeks later, I was offered. However, in the mean time, I got another competitive offer in the same city I was living in which means I did not have to relocated. But, I think Illumina is a great company with smart and hard working people. I didn't join only because of my own personal circumstances. The company looks very committed even to people like me who declined the offer yet they did not have any delay in my travel reimbursement.
If I get another opportunity, I will definitely accept the offer.
