I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA) in Nov 2016
Interview
The interview was a "digital interview". It's a series of 8 questions, two of them just basic info questions and the other six are basic non technical interview questions. You are given a few minutes to prepare for each question and then typically five minutes to record your response.

Question 1
Illumina attracts the best and brightest, how would you fit in?
Virtual interview, I didn't get to talk to a real person, had to record all of my answers with a time limit, it was a horrible process and there was very little human communication
The first step was an audio-only hirevue that allowed two attempts. After passing that, there were two video call interviews with team members for a total of around 90 minutes give or take.

Question 1
Experience with teamwork, challenges, relevant experiences on resume.

Interview
Weird video interview where they asked me "How would you explain to a 6-year-old why the sky is orange at sunset." The other question I don't remember but was equally strange for a 2-question video interview. It felt very impersonal.
