I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ideas in Motion Media (Valparaiso, IN)
Interview
This interview was a joke. I was a qualified candidate with a CS degree and the more I asked about the code base and practices the more terrifying it really was. No technical questions were asked that I recall, which is also terrifying.
The main developer is some free-lance person with no training or professional experience and the rest of the code was filled in by either desperate people looking for a job after college or high-school kids from Best Buy.
There is no structure, nothing was made with scalability and flexibility in mind. I asked the "developer" if any design patterns were being used, or if they were modeled using MVC and received blank stares in return.
That was all I needed to know.
The owner has no idea the difference between professional development and IT. In this role you will be expected to handle all IT matters for all employees and the business, do development work in what I can assume is a horrendous code base, and handle all IT related communications.
All for 20K with no benefits.
The only positive review on this site on here is guaranteed from the owner. It's the exact same language used in the interview with him.
If you're in the area and looking to get a start in something tech related, look towards the school systems. They usually are hiring tech people and you may be able to get in some dev work for them and boost your resume. They also pay higher, have benefits, and PTO.
(Me at the end of the interview after hearing the owner's long speil about how bad it is to work there): Are you legitimately trying to scare people off?
