I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IXL Learning
Interview
The Recruiter setup an interview with a designer from IXL Learning. I spoke with the designer with basic background questions. I passed the phone screen, so they had me do a design challenge. They gave a week; more if you needed additional time to design 3 mock-ups. The thing that I do not like about this request is they don't pay you for your time. Other companies do. It's ridiculous to ask for 3 mock-ups. One mock-up would be fair for your free time.

Question 1
Tell me about yourself?
Why do you want to work here?
Talk about your background.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at IXL Learning in May 2018
Interview
The process started off pretty standard. A recruiter reached out to me through email and then a phone screen. After some mutual interest, I was given a design challenge in which I was to come up with two mockups for a landing page. I submitted the response within a few days.
Things got a little strange with the next part. Another recruiter followed up with me to see if there was still interest, in which I obviously said there was (hence my submittal of the design challenge). The phone call wasn't necessarily a follow-up of the design challenge-- it was reiterating the initial call with the other recruiter which was confusing to me why this step was included.
A few days later, I got an email with a scheduled onsite with the members of the team that I was going to meet. I agreed to it and reviewed the directions attached to the email. However, two days before my onsite with the team, the recruiter reached out to me and said that the position was filled that morning and consequently cancelled my onsite. I was a bit disappointed and felt there was no alignment between the recruiters and the team. They went as far as to set up an onsite interview with me but couldn't wait two days to make a decision.

Question 1
Redesign a landing page in two styles: one that's like the current IXL style and one that's completely your own
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at IXL Learning (San Mateo, CA) in Sept 2017
Interview
No recruiter screening phone interview. Went straight to phone interview with the design manager. Then was given a design test and a week to work on it. The test asked me to design samples of possible educational questions for Kindergarten, and was fairly easy. A 2 part test - one requiring mocks and one written test describing how you would design it.
