      Product Analyst Interview

      14 Sept 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IXL Learning in Aug 2012

      Interview

I submitted my resume and cover letter on a Sunday, and was contacted the next day by someone who wanted to make sure I was willing to relocate because she was impressed by my resume and wanted to speed up the interview process. We scheduled a phone interview for that week. She said it would be 30 minutes. The interview resembled an in-person first interview. I was asked what I would improve about the web site, what most attracted me to the company, whether anything in the job description concerned me. I thought the interview was going well (given that I am pretty bad at interviews, being very shy and socially nervous). She asked me if I had any questions, and I asked about the company structure and what sort of team work vs individual work was involved. She answered my questions and then she went silent. Completely silent. I started to realize something wasn't going well at all and made one last effort to engage her and sound her out. She responded and then went silent again. Finally, I said "well, I think I've asked all the questions I wanted to ask," and we said goodbye. She said nothing about next steps. It was a terrible feeling, after missing an unpaid day from my current job to prep for this interview. It was my dream job, and I'm fairly sure I was well-qualified.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at IXL Learning

      Interview

I was interviewed over the phone first, which included a fun brain teaser. The second phase of the interview was written and included the type of the work that the job would entail, namely answering code-like questions which I spent quite a bit of time on. Phase 3 was the in-person interview. It seemed like the first person liked me, and the second didn't since I didn't think of something she was looking for regarding elementary fraction problems. After that, I was sitting alone in a room, having no idea how many people I would interview with, but then I was told that there would be no additional interviewers.

      Interview

It was a light and easy conversation. I spoke about my work, interests and background. The interviewer explained the role, his job and the specifications of what the work involved. I was asked to give feedback about the website and make suggestions. Along the way I was also told if my suggestions had been previously considered and what debates there had been. We discussed the multidisciplinary nature of the job at length.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at IXL Learning

      Interview

Received an email within a week of posting my resume requesting a 30 minute phone interview The phone interview was straight forward with a knowledgeable, friendly person. They followed up by giving me a task to complete within a week and then I had another phone interview. I was then asked to come in for an on-site interview, which was 2.5 hours in a small room with 3 different people -- exhausting. The last interviewer was not very friendly, asked me a lot of the same questions the previous interviewers had, and seemed disinterested in talking with me. Not sure what was going on there because the other two people were great. After 3 interviews and a task to complete, I was a little annoyed that I was told I wasn't a match -- does it really take that long to figure out?
