      Data Scientist Interview

      28 Sept 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at ING

      Interview

The interview consisted of one verbal technical interview and one take home assignment. Don't bother working for this company. There is a lot to do in the take home assignment and they ask nonsense questions to you while doing the presentation. It was a complete waste of time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Some of the non-sense questions i have been asked include: "How much more weight does F2 score give to recall compared to F1 and F0.5". Basically you need to remember the the formula of Fbeta and do the math operations for F2 and F1 and F0.5 to find precison/recall ratio in your head while doing your presentation and answer it on the fly like a calculator. Its an absolute nonsense to ask a question like that while doing a verbal presentation. "How much percentage of difference between training and validation error is concerning for overfitting?" As you may know there is not a universal answer for this. It depends on the case the less difference is better but there is no one number fits for all answer for this, but according to them, this is not an option and they insisted me to give a concrete number, and i bet if i said something like 40% they would ask why not 39, or 41. Yeah expect nonsense follow-up questions like that. In my interview I had full of questions like these.

The interview process was smooth and well-structured, with technical questions that gradually increased in difficulty. This approach made the discussion feel comfortable, engaging, and gave me the chance to showcase my skills step by step.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at ING

      Interview

The process had several rounds. It comprised an initial online tech assessment (some multiple choice questions and a sql and python exercise), HR chat, personality interview, case study and one final chat. The case study was a take-home assignment to be discussed in an hour interview. Overall they were professional and kind.
