Transit and Mobility Planner (NY) Interview

      5 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ICF in Aug 2023

      Interview

The ICF interview process consisted of three interviews and moved extremely quickly. I was contacted by a recruiter within a day of applying then encouraged to fill out an online candidate questionnaire, afterwards we set up an initial 30min phone interview for the following week. While the recruiter was very nice and personable, there was no time for me to really ask questions about the company/role as his schedule was tight that day. Following the initial interview, I was contacted by another recruiter the next day who set up another interview with myself and one of the transit team members within the same week. Again, this second interviewer was very friendly and transparent, but I got the impression that there was a lack of communication and he did not seem prepared to interview me. Despite the lack of preparation on his end, the second interview went well and the other recruiter scheduled me for my final interview the following week. The final interview consisted of two different transit team members who encouraged questions I had about the role at the very beginning and then ended it by asking how I was qualified. During the second interview I felt perfectly qualified and excited about the role the interviewer was describing but during the third interview the other team members described the role completely differently which made me feel unprepared to answer their questions. Unfortunately, I felt that I did not do well during the final interview and the interviewers must have felt the same way as they cut the interview short and did not provide any details about the next steps. I followed up with the initial recruiter a week after the final interview and never heard anything back. I'm not really surprised that they ghosted me, but it would have been nice to just get a generic "we went with a more qualified candidate" email. Overall, the recruiters and interviewers were nice people, but I feel like I dodged a bullet with this company. From the other horrible reviews I read, I was worried this role would be way more daunting than the team members led on with lots of micromanagement and long working hours. It seemed like the team member I would be working with was extremely overwhelmed with work and that this would have been a support role for him which was not outlined in the job description. I will continue my job search with other companies.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why are you interested in ICF? What makes a good boss/manager in your opinion? Are your current skills transferable to this position? Are you at all interested in the business development side of ICF? What experience do you have with data analysis/why are you passionate about it? Do you work better in a team environment or individually? Tell me about a time you were challenged with a new project you knew nothing about, how did you adapt and what was the outcome?
