Job spec didn’t mention that the company was now a 7 day operation and the successful candidate would be expected to work most weekends. Pretty major thing not to mention on the advertisement.
The interviewer emphasised over & over again how busy the office was and detailed the 70 staff the successful candidate would have to do payroll for, the 65 residents and their family you had to look after payments for and deal with complaints from etc. They advised that the last person in this position did not last long in the post due to how stressful the busy office was. After making it clear that the successful candidate would have to be adaptable, extremely multi skilled & able to work well under daily pressure, the interviewer then told me that the salary was £23K…
I explained that this salary doesn’t reflect the broad job spec or experience the multi dimensional candidate must have earned over the years through work to be able to do all of these duties on the job spec.
The interviewer apologised & advised that there was no wiggle room re. the salary,
as they had already asked head office about this & been told no. I felt like my time was wasted in the time it took to complete the application & taking time off work to attend the hour long interview & the petrol money it cost to get there etc. All of this was for a job I wouldn’t have considered if I knew I was expected to work weekends and for what is a living wage salary (£11.44ph X 40hrs pw X 52 weeks = £23’795pa).
