      Territory Manager Interview

      24 Sept 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Wichita, KS
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hi-Line (Wichita, KS) in Sept 2024

      Interview

Started with calling the phone they listed on the application page. Talked to the hiring manager who asked me to submit my resume he also put me in touch with the District sales manager for the district I applied to, We talked for a while got some questions answered and moved to the next step which involved some pretty intense testing. After that I talked with a gal doing the job that I would be doing and had a chance to really get to know better what kind of work the day to day would be, The following week I talked with both the DSM for my territory and another DSM I think for a nearby region. They liked my test results and had me fill out some more paperwork for an extended interview. After that they had submitted paperwork their territory manager experience which as I understood is kinda like a job shadow to see if you align with what they do. Unfortunately management then declined to proceed with the experience as I had no former sales experience. I was really dissapointed in that answer because the job application and everyone I talked to indicated that no sales experience was not a barrier and in fact they offer some exceptional training. It mentioned more than once that this role was more of a customer service with a side of sales which they could teach. Anyway I thank the many people that took so much time to have detailed conversations with me and just ask management to be more transparent with both the application and the managers about expectations in terms of sales experience.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Hi-Line

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted to set up an interview, pretty quick actually. The recruiter was very personable, I enjoyed chatting with her. Please see below on more detail of the role and relationship with the company. I am at a loss to describe their business model. You would be a W2 employee but you are required to lease and pay for a company branded truck/van through their leasing company. You are the one paying for the truck/van each month, but you cannot deduct the lease payments because they pay you as an employee(individual) not as a corporation/LLC etc. So its a 'company to employee' relationship, not a 'vendor to vendor' relationship. Of course an Independent Operator and/or Contractor relationship would have its own challenges, but they are not proposing that either. The job is completely mobile. They do reimburse miles for the first year, but after that you are on your own for paying for miles. Keep in mind, you are a still considered to be a W2 employee. You need to pay for your own cell phone as well as their employee. They provide back office support, tablet. We didn't even get into who's responsible for the maintenance expense on the truck/van, but if you're making monthly payments.....make sure you ask! They boast they are a debt free company, could it be partly because they are shifting nearly $5M in fleet expense to their employees?

This is Jack. This is a slanderous and inaccurate review. The writer just makes stuff up as they go along, such as saying, "shifting nearly $5M in fleet expense to their employees". That is a crazy high number that the writer just pulled out of thin air. Not even sure what they are trying to say here. There is absolutely nothing illegal about our business model and it is slanderous to imply. If any reader has any questions regarding any Hi-Line opportunity, please know anyone is more than welcome to pick up the phone and call me directly.

      Territory Manager Interview

      22 Jun 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Hi-Line (Dallas, TX) in May 2020

      Interview

It was very thorough but to drawn out. It was difficult to jump though the hoops while maintaining my current job. Near the end I started to have doubts but felt like I was to far down the path.

This is Jack. 12+ weeks seems very long. Perhaps the writer had other conflicting priorities in which slowed down the on boarding process. Always tricky to look for another job while working at your current employer. We do thank you for your interest and wish you the best going forward!
