      Senior Backend Developer Interview

      23 Apr 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HeyJobs in Apr 2019

      Interview

After I applied to HeyJobs they arranged the first interview as technical interview. This took 45 minutes. In this interview I was asked simple questions regarding to sql and web fundamentals. After the the first interview they sent me a ruby task that had a deadline. This ruby task was also simple. I submitted this task on time and then they arranged second interview that consists of three separate interviews. These interviews were cultural interview with CTO, second technical interview with two backend guys and cultural interview with two product managers. These 3 interviews took almost 3 hours. In these 3 interviews they tried to understand if were a good candidate for this position. The questions they asked me were reasonable and doable. And lastly, in a short time the hr manager arranged a 30 minutes google hangout meeting and delivered me the result with reasons. The full interview process took almost 2 weeks and I want to admit this is really a short interview process comparing to other companies. All the interview guys are really nice. And finally, special thanks to hr manager because she is very fast from the beginning to the finish. All my questions were answered by her in time.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at HeyJobs in Mar 2019

      Interview

Their recruiter contacted me via email and we scheduled a video call with their engineering manager. During our call it turned out he never even looked at my CV. His first question was "Why do you want to work for Heyjobs", his second question was "What are your salary expectations?". When I replied, he said it's out of their salary range, so doesn't make much sense to continue the interview because they pay maximum of 72k per year to their Senior Ruby Developers. Why don't you ask people to provide their salary expectations during the application process then? Why do you waste my time by scheduling calls? In general I had a feeling that the engineering manager was not interested to interview me, he didn't read my CV before the interview and his attitude was like "I don't care much, let's end up this call."
