I applied online and was called for a phone screening. In-person interview was scheduled for the following week. The recruiter required me to fill out a job application and bring it to the interview despite my having completed the exact same application online (red flag #1). Hiring manager was 17 minutes late to the interview (red flag #2). Very basic questions about background and experience with ADDIE model and my approach to instructional design. Entire interview lasted about 20 minutes. Got an offer the following week. They would not provide a written job offer until I accepted the verbal offer (95k salary, 2 weeks PTO, medical, dental, vision, and 4% 401k match) made by the recruiter (red flag #3). When I asked about them accommodating my continuing education (pursuing a graduate degree in instructional design which requires 1 Friday every 7 weeks), they declined. I asked about using my PTO (only 2 weeks per year; red flag #4). I never sought additional PTO beyond the 2 weeks offered, and never asked (nor needed) an advance on PTO accrual (3.3 hours per pay period). The recruiter said that would not be possible and rescinded the offer. Dodged a bullet with this one. If this is how they treat job applicants that have been extended an offer, I can’t imagine what it’s like to work there. Glad I won’t ever have to find out.
