I interviewed, gave a teaching demo, and campus visit in the spring of 2022. The position consisted of approximately 49% research and scholarship and 51% teaching. The teaching load discussed in the interview was 3 or 4 classes per semester, and I would also be the director of the GEM center which included getting a TV and radio broadcast station/studio back up and running. Most of the classes and duties are outside my field, but I hoped I could start slow and add responsibilities as I became familiar with the classes, institution, and other responsibilities.
The details changed several times, but the offer they outlined on June 4th included teaching 5 courses (10 credit hours and a maximum of 125 students), a 3-hour practicum student in TV/radio, and 2 hours setting up the GEM center. I decided the last offer was more than I would feel comfortable managing while acclimating to a new school, town, and field of study/research, so I declined.
