      Software Engineer Interview

      22 Sept 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HealthVerity in Aug 2021

      Interview

HealthVerity's interview process was much more welcoming and inviting that others that I've been through. As an engineering interview, after talking with the recruiter to learn more about the position and the company, there was a take-home assignment, which I always appreciate as part of the screening process. There was then a (virtual) on-site consisting of 3 or 4 separate sessions with different members of the team, ranging from communication skills and discussing past project, up to a live coding and debugging exercise. I appreciated that the tech sessions were mostly about seeing what you know and how you think and could work with the team, and not just puzzle algorithm/optimization problems with no connection to real work you may be doing. I know I mentioned this already, but the technical sessions felt more collaborative and less confrontational that some that I've been through. The interviewers made me feel comfortable throughout the process, so I could see myself working with the team. One of the things that appealed to me about HealthVerity was how much emphasis was put on making sure their employees were happy and empowered to grow their skills and careers. This will matter more once things open up again, but they have a beautiful Center City (Philadelphia) office that I look forward to seeing in person.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HealthVerity (Philadelphia, PA) in Feb 2023

      Interview

In the span of 2 weeks, a series of things will happen. A 15–20 minute recruiter call will be followed by a take-home test. The last step will involve a 3- to 4-hour virtual on-site interview. The team you'll be working with will interview you. A technical round with live coding and technical questions will take place. There will be a non-technical round in which you'll be asked questions about work culture and tested on how you'll handle specific situations. Instead of providing accurate results, many questions were asked to assess how novel your approach is. It will help to be well-prepared in understanding the interviewer's expectations. The recruiter will keep you well informed about the next steps at every stage of the process. The interviewers are welcoming and encouraging. They are adept at answering queries and dispelling ambiguities. The interview will take place in a positive, cooperative environment.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HealthVerity in Aug 2022

      Interview

Healthverity's interview process was very good. The teams questions showed me they knew their stuff. For an engineering role I had: - 30 minute call with recruiter/hr - Take home code exercise, about 45-1.5 hours depending on how crazy you go. - 3 hours of interview with the team including some live coding as well as meeting most levels of the team. - Touch base with the recruiter. - References Checked Compared to other recruitment efforts I've been through this year, this went very well. I was particularly impressed with the content of the code assessments. Lots of practical OS type stuff instead of the usual textbook algorithms. The interviews were challenging but fair and fun.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Good mix of behavioral and technical questions. For example. Q - Describe a technology tool or library you have learned recently that was exciting to you and why.

      Interview

Overall, I found the interview process to be very streamlined and friendly. I was initially contacted by a 3rd party recruiter who submitted my profile to the team. I then had a call with an internal recruiter who verified my information and set me up to do a small coding project that took about 30 mins. After the coding project, I had interviews with various members of the organization to assess my skills. My final interview was with the manager of the team I would be joining.
