I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) in Dec 2009
Interview
Submitted a letter and resume in response to a job posted on Harvard's ASPIRE website. Was then contacted by HR for a first round interview (screening process, very basic and brief), which was followed by a second interview with the executive director and a professor of the specific research program that posted the open position. There were at least 3-4 weeks between each event (applying, interviewing, and receiving job offer) and the overall process, from applying to starting the job, took about 4 months.

Question 1
What is my long term career plan and how does this job fit into that plan?

Interview
It was fairly standard, a virtual meeting was scheduled and I was asked to introduce myself and my research after which he told me a bit about his own. There were no oddball questions or particularly difficult ones.
Submitted application and was invited for an interview the next day. One video call interview, more like a conversation with two members of the lab. Both were very friendly and interview was enjoyable.

Pretty simple interview process; you meet a PI, find a grad student, and then decide on hours and if there are projects you'd be a good fit to work on.
